Intersection over union of two axis-aligned bounding boxes.
Formula
IoU = area(A ∩ B) / area(A ∪ B)
Range: [0, 1]
Inputs and outputs
- boxes A [x1, y1, x2, y2]
- boxes B [x1, y1, x2, y2]
Returns: pairwise IoU matrix
Assumptions
- Boxes must satisfy x2 ≥ x1 and y2 ≥ y1; invalid boxes raise a validation error.
Limitations
No metric-specific limitations are documented yet. Interpret the value alongside the task, data, and other metrics.
